EVENTS & WORKSHOPS

Events

Each year, PWS holds at least two art exhibits. The highlight of each year is our International Juried Exhibition, one of the premier Juried Watercolor Shows in the world. We also hold an online Member’s Only show each year. Our Upcoming Events Calendar lists registration opening dates and deadlines for these exhibits. You can find more information about our upcoming Exhibits under the Exhibits tab on our main menu.

Workshops

PWS holds up to two 3-day instructional workshops each year, typically in the spring and fall, which are also listed on our Upcoming Events Calendar. A wide range of painting styles and methods is covered, with nationally-known instructors running the workshops. Our workshops are held at the Hummelstown Fire Hall, 249 East Main Street, Hummelstown, PA. Workshop fees include snacks and lunch each day. Workshop participants and the instructor typically gather at a local restaurant for dinner on Day 2; each participant is responsible for paying for their own food and beverages at this dinner.

Workshop fees are $350.00 for PWS members (members need to log in to receive their member discount) and $400.00 for nonmembers.

Cancellations more than two weeks prior to the workshop Day 1 are fully refundable. Cancellations within the two-week period prior to the start of the workshop are subject to a $100 cancellation fee.

Richie N. Vios, SLPAPA, AIS, SWS

Born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines, surrounded by the influence of an artistic family, Richie ventured into academia after earning a bachelor's degree in architecture, becoming a university faculty member in 1995. In 2005, Richie sought fresh prospects and moved to America, working as an architectural designer in Clearwater, Florida for six years. Upon his return to the Philippines in 2010, he resumed his architectural practice with a vision to harmonize Western architectural principles with Southeast Asian aesthetics.

During his architectural practice in the Philippines, Richie dedicated his spare time over the next seven years to honing his watercolor painting skills, a passion that now defines his artistic identity. Reuniting with his family in Victoria, Texas, in 2018, Richie embarked on a new chapter as a watercolor impressionist and plein air artist, reigniting his pursuit of the American dream. Presently residing in Austin, Texas, Richie participates in Plein air events nationwide and leads watercolor workshops to share his expertise and inspire fellow artists.

Artist's Statement: I believe that a good artist is someone who can capture the different facets of life in their paintings, including mood, ambiance, and more. In a sense, they do not just illustrate or record what they see but also express what they feel. The subject before me serves as my inspiration, enhanced by my imagination, fueled by my passion, and reflected in my personal artistic impression embodied in my watercolor works.
